I’m writing to express my support for Senate Bills 508, 509, and 510. They’re currently in the Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety, with no companion bill in the House yet.
These common sense proposals focus on clear legal standards, accountability, and public safety, while allowing immigration enforcement to continue within established constitutional boundaries.
• Senate Bill 508 would require a judicial warrant before immigration enforcement actions take place in sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, places of worship, and courthouses.
• Senate Bill 509 would require a warrant before state or local agencies share personal identifying information with federal immigration authorities.
• Senate Bill 510 would require law enforcement officers to be identifiable when interacting with the public, with appropriate exceptions for safety and undercover work.
Taken together, these bills aim to provide clarity, protect individual rights, and maintain trust between the public and law enforcement, without interfering with legitimate enforcement efforts.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your time.
