I am writing as your constituent to urge you to speak out against the Department of the Interior's Draft Environmental Assessment proposing to expand oil and gas drilling on public lands in the Greater Chaco Region. I respectfully ask you to support stronger protections for this irreplaceable landscape and the communities connected to it. The Greater Chaco Region is far more than a collection of public lands. It is a place of profound cultural, historical, and spiritual significance to many Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities. These landscapes contain sacred sites, ancestral homes, archaeological resources, and cultural traditions that cannot be replaced once they are damaged. Decisions about their future should prioritize long-term stewardship over short-term development. I believe our public lands should be managed in a way that honors their cultural importance and respects the voices of Tribal Nations whose history and identity are deeply connected to this region. Expanding oil and gas development risks causing irreversible harm to places that deserve careful protection for current and future generations. I urge you to publicly oppose the Department of the Interior's Draft Environmental Assessment and advocate for stronger protections for the Greater Chaco Region. Please support policies that safeguard its cultural and sacred sites and ensure that Tribal perspectives are meaningfully considered in decisions affecting these lands.
