Demand Immediate Action to Free Christopher Payne from Japan Detention
To: Rep. Hunt, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz
From: A verified voter in Houston, TX
April 29
Christopher Payne, a U.S. citizen, has been held in solitary confinement in Japan for 4.5 years without proper due process. I need you to intervene immediately to secure his release on bail and ensure he receives the legal protections he deserves as an American.
Japan's 'hostage justice' system has kept Christopher detained even after the Tokyo High Court overturned his case. His mental and physical health are deteriorating while our government stands by and does nothing. This is unacceptable. Every day he remains in isolation is another failure of our responsibility to protect Americans abroad.
The State Department must make this case a priority. Press Japanese authorities to grant bail, provide Christopher with adequate legal representation, and ensure his treatment meets international human rights standards. His mother, a single parent, has been fighting alone for years while her son suffers in detention.
Christopher needs more than diplomatic pleasantries. He needs you to use every tool available to bring him home. Will you commit to taking concrete action on his behalf this week?
