The recent report released by the Department of Health and Human Services on medical care for transgender and gender-diverse youth is deeply concerning. It disregards established medical consensus and fails to accurately represent the realities of providing evidence-based, age-appropriate care to these young patients. This report prioritizes select perspectives over comprehensive reviews of extensive peer-reviewed research on this topic. Such a narrow approach jeopardizes the health and well-being of transgender youth by promoting misinformation. Decisions about appropriate medical care should be made between patients, families, and their physicians - not politicians or government officials operating outside their areas of expertise. I urge you to reject this flawed report and instead listen to the voices of medical experts, transgender youth, and their families when considering policies that profoundly impact their lives and access to essential healthcare services.
