The new Texas voter map is ridiculous and should not be legal.
The old map:
• 25 Republican Reps
• 13 Democratic Reps.
The new map shifts to:
• 30 Republican Reps
• 8 Democratic
The Gerrymander Project at Princeton University gave Texas an ‘F’ on the previous map. This next one is going to be much worse.
The irony of this is that the Independent Voter Project (https://independentvoterproject.org/voter-stats/tx) has Texas voters classified as following:
• 46.5% Democratic Voters
• 37.9% Republican Voters
• 15.5% Independent Voters
If they were going to build a ‘fair’ map, based on these percentages – and if they evenly split the Independent Voters between both Democrats and Republicans, then we should have:
• 21 Democratic districts and
• 17 Republican
We are not properly represented in this state.
