To cut waste, fraud, and abuse―look at Pentagon contractors and private prisons.

To: Rep. DesJarlais, Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Dayton, TN

April 10

As your constituent, I am urging you to reject cuts to health care and food assistance that pay for increased funding for wasteful contractors at ICE and the Pentagon. Pentagon contracts alone total more than the salaries of every single federal worker combined. ICE funding goes towards private prisons and detention facilities where rampant abuse happens while the corporations who run the prisons collect billions of dollars in profit. That money would be best served by helping families deal with rising costs by investing in early education programs, housing vouchers, Medicaid, SNAP, and more. Spending trillions of dollars on Pentagon and ICE contractors does not keep us safer, but critical investments in communities do. If Congress is looking for ways to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, it should target contractors at the Pentagon and private prisons making money from family separation and mass detention. Please speak out against taking food and health care away from people to pay for family separation and pad the pockets of Pentagon contractors.
