The proposed "Save MO Babies Act" raises serious concerns about privacy rights and government overreach. Compelling all expecting mothers deemed "at risk" to be entered into a state registry is an unprecedented invasion of privacy and reproductive freedom. This registry would unduly stigmatize women and perpetuate discrimination based on circumstances beyond their control. Furthermore, there are no clear criteria outlined for determining who is classified as "at risk," leaving the door open for arbitrary and biased enforcement. Rather than promoting healthy pregnancies, this bill would breed distrust and discourage women from seeking vital prenatal care and support services. Its coercive measures run counter to bodily autonomy and could have severe unintended consequences. Abortion is a legal medical procedure, and any legislation aimed at preventing it through surveillance and adoption pressures is unethical and likely unconstitutional after Missouri's recent amendment. I strongly urge you to reject HB 807 and any similarly misguided attempts to police pregnant Missourians. Safeguarding reproductive rights and personal privacy must be priorities. Funds would be better directed towards comprehensive sex education, affordable healthcare access, and social services to empower families - not punitive monitoring. Women deserve to make deeply personal choices about pregnancy with dignity and without government interference.
