The SAVE Act is a harmful and unnecessary piece of legislation that would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters across the country. This bill imposes overly burdensome requirements for proving citizenship when registering to vote, which studies show a significant portion of eligible voters lack ready access to the required documents. The act discriminates against women who change their names after marriage, people of color, rural voters, and those with disabilities. It threatens election workers with severe penalties and restricts mail voting options utilized by many Americans. Rather than addressing a virtually non-existent problem of non-citizen voting, the SAVE Act creates unjustified barriers to the fundamental right to vote. This legislation undermines the integrity of our elections and represents an alarming step towards voter suppression on a massive scale. As such, I urge you to reject this anti-democratic bill and uphold the constitutional rights of all eligible citizens to participate freely in the electoral process.
