I urge you to vote to withhold authorization for hostilities against Iran. While we know that presidents of both parties have been loose with war powers, President Trump has been particularly bad about taking military action with no Congressional input. He must be held accountable for this. Although it may seem hard to stop action once it has started, this must happen. We must show the world that we are a nation of laws, not a nation controlled by one man's whim. It is particularly upsetting that just as Oman announced that Iran was close to a deal on nuclear matters, Trump decided to attack anyway. It seems clear that at least the timing of this war was to make a distraction from ICE and Epstein Files, not for military or security reasons. Congress simply must assert its Article 1 powers and stop being an echo chamber for the Executive Branch.
