I’m writing to again express my outrage over the escalating human rights abuses in Minneapolis, with immigrant communities bearing the brunt of the administration’s cruel policies. The administration sent thousands of federal agents to Minneapolis to carry out “the largest immigration operation ever,” in a cruel, unnecessary, and destabilizing show of force.
Congress must reject any further ICE funding, which is surely costing taxpayers more than we would otherwise pay if immigrants were left alone.
I urge you to demand full accountability for those who ordered and committed these abuses.
Please do not approve any further tax dollars to DHS without tying it to common sense ICE reforms, including:
• Targeted enforcement that’s supported by a judicial warrant
• No masks or face coverings
• Officers must present their official ID
• End enforcement activities in sensitive locations such as medical facilities, schools, childcare facilities, churches, polling places, courts, etc.
• Stop racial profiling
• Uphold use-of-force policies, expand training and require certification of officers.
• Ensure state and local coordination and oversight
• Build safeguards into the detention system
• Body cameras for accountability, not for tracking people participating in first amendment activities
• No paramilitary police
This administration has demonstrated a pattern of escalation and unwarranted violence. It’s up to Congress to step in and protect our communities.
Thank you.
