I'm asking you to support legislation that bans partisan gerrymandering and establishes independent redistricting commissions. The Supreme Court's recent Callais decision has opened the floodgates for extreme partisan map manipulation that will lock voters out of fair representation for a generation.
Fair Fight reports that Republican legislatures across 10 Southern states are now positioned to create 19 more safe U.S. House seats through gerrymandering, cementing one-party control even if Democrats win the popular vote. Florida passed a new map designed for maximum partisan advantage the same day Callais was decided. This isn't theoretical. It's happening right now, and it will decimate Black and Latino representation in Congress and state legislatures.
The Callais decision effectively gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by making it virtually impossible to challenge racially discriminatory maps. Justice Kagan's dissent warned that the majority left Section 2 "all but a dead letter." With federal protections dismantled, we need state and federal action to ensure districts reflect actual communities, not partisan advantage.
Independent redistricting takes map-drawing out of politicians' hands and returns power to voters. I need you to champion this reform now, before the next redistricting cycle locks in another decade of rigged maps.
