Oppose the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act and KOSA

To: Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Carter, Sen. Warnock

From: A constituent in Hinesville, GA

May 26, 2025

I'm writing in strong opposition to the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act and KOSA both of which are bills that would be disastrous for free speech and expression online and offline. Texas' SB 20 already ignores the constitution under the guise of protecting children and age verification laws are also skirting the First Amendment under the guise of being moderation laws when they effectively ban adults from accessing adult content. There are better ways to protect minors from explicit material while defending them from trafficking and grooming. FESTA and SOSTA have made it harder for law enforcement to prosecute sex trafficking by design and age verification laws only punish adults with needless hourly face scans and ID scans, forcing them to expose sensitive information simply to access adult material at the risk of identity theft and hacking. Kentucky's age verification law did nothing to stop an unfortunate lawmaker's image from being distributed to pirate rogue overseas sites that don't have regulations. Her proposal to extend the law to all image hosting sites will not be any more successful. IODA would criminalize legal speech and expression while doing nothing to protect children. KOSA would force websites to shut down or over censor. Please reject them both. Thank you.
