Last week, Fox News personality Brian Kilmeade was on the Fox show “Fox and Friends” when he called for people who are experiencing mental illness and homelessness to be executed via “Involuntary lethal injection or something. Just kill ‘em.”
This is not a shock. It’s exactly the type of violent rhetoric targeting vulnerable populations that we see consistently from the right-wing media ecosystem, of which Fox News has always been the vanguard. It’s exactly the type of rhetoric that inspired the mass shootings at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC, at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA, at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL, and on and on and on.
It’s time to hold the right-wing media ecosystem responsible for the things it says and the havoc it has wreaked on our culture. You need to stand up and call for Kilmeade to be fired, and amplify the message that outlets like Fox and Newsmax, as well as the podcasts and radio shows of people like Rush Limbaugh, Steve Bannon, Nick Fuentes, and many many others, created the climate of political murder in which we now find ourselves. Now, in the wake of the murder of Charlie Kirk, is the time to take a strong stand and push back against the destructive narratives they have created, and ask for these “pundits” to be taken off the air.
