Oppose Legislation Banning Trans Youth From Sports

To: Rep. Dingell, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Milan, MI

August 6

Banning transgender children from sports is a human rights issue, and I need you to oppose any legislation that excludes trans youth from athletic participation. These bans don't protect anyone — they target some of the most vulnerable kids in our communities and strip them of the belonging, teamwork, and joy that sports provide every other child. The manufactured crisis around transgender athletes is a political strategy, not a genuine concern for fairness. Conservative strategists have openly admitted it's a wedge issue — get people debating trans women in sports, then use that opening to attack all trans rights. Even the Women's National Basketball Players Association recognized this in 2021, filing an amicus brief to protect transgender student athletes and declaring: "We want to send an unequivocal message to trans and nonbinary youth in sports: we see you, we are an ally and we will fight for you." Minnesota Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve put it plainly: "We need to protect trans kids. It's a human rights issue." Read more here: https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/wnba-coach-cheryl-reeve-wore-trans. She's right. Stand with trans youth and vote against any measure that bars them from playing.
