The Republican Party's unwavering support for Trump's reckless trade wars and tariffs is inflicting severe economic harm on American families. Retailers across the country are being forced to raise prices substantially on everyday goods due to the president's tariffs, creating a Trump tax that households must bear. This inexcusable kowtowing to Trump's ego is jeopardizing the holiday season and putting Christmas at risk for children by freezing the supply chain for toys and other gifts. Rather than more empty rhetoric about patriotism, the Michigan legislature should take tangible action to protect consumers by requiring retailers to prominently display tariff charges separately, just as they do for sales taxes. Michiganders deserve full transparency about the costs Trump's disastrous policies are imposing on them. Stand up for the financial well-being of working families over the greed of multinational corporations benefiting from this de facto tax increase. Hold the Republican party accountable in 2026 for enabling this economic sabotage.
