Uphold constitutional checks and balances to protect democracy

To: Rep. Burchett, Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Farragut, TN

February 8

The constitutional crisis our nation is facing represents a profound threat to our democratic system of government and the liberties enshrined in our founding document. We must uphold our oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The deliberate separation of powers and checks and balances were carefully designed by the Framers to prevent any one branch from accumulating too much authority and abusing its power. However, we are witnessing an unprecedented assault on these fundamental principles through the consolidation of power in the executive branch, the usurpation of Congress's constitutionally-mandated roles, and the dismantling of institutions vital to transparent and accountable governance. If left unchecked, these actions imperil the foundations of our republic. We call on you to take a stand as a co-equal branch of government and reassert Congress's lawful oversight and legislative prerogatives. Reject nominees who seek to undermine constitutional constraints and empower an unrestrained executive. Exercise the power of the purse to rein in unconstitutional overreach. Investigate breaches of national security protocols and potential abuses of Americans' private data. Ultimately, we urge Congress to establish a clear line of defense – the United States Constitution itself – beyond which no branch may transgress without dire consequences for our democracy. The future of our nation's liberties rests upon your willingness to courageously fulfill your sworn duty to protect and preserve our constitution against all threats.
