Protect Ocean Monitoring Programs

To: Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty

From: A verified voter in Antioch, TN

June 20

Stop any effort to dismantle ocean monitoring programs. These systems are not bureaucratic overhead — they are the early warning infrastructure that protects coastal communities, fisheries, and national security. Cutting them is not a cost savings; it's a liability. Ocean monitoring data drives hurricane forecasting, fisheries management, and climate research that affects millions of people. Once these observational networks are gone, rebuilding them takes years and costs far more than maintaining them. I expect you to oppose any budget cuts, restructuring, or agency actions that would reduce ocean monitoring capacity, and to make that opposition loud and on the record.
