Donald Trump is abusing federal power to punish his critics and bend institutions to his will. He pressured the DOJ to investigate Fed Chair Jerome Powell after Powell refused to change interest rates to suit Trump. Powell called it intimidation (ABC News, January 2026).
Trump has replaced independent prosecutors with loyalists who target his enemies. The Justice Department is being used to settle political scores.
In Minnesota, Governor Tim Walz dropped out of the governor’s race after nonstop harassment from Trump’s allies (Minnesota Reformer, December 2025). The goal wasn’t debate—it was to drive him out.
Trump has also targeted states that defy him. He launched ICE raids in sanctuary cities and deployed the National Guard without consent. A federal judge ordered the Guard out of Los Angeles and called the mission “profoundly un-American” (News From the States, January 2026).
These are not isolated. They’re part of a campaign to control courts, elections, state governments, and law enforcement through fear and force.
Congress must act now. Defend the DOJ, the Fed, and the right of states to govern without federal threats. This is a test of whether democratic institutions can survive political abuse.
I am pleading for your help to protect and defend our democracy.
