Censure Moulton

To: Sen. Markey, Sen. Warren, Rep. Auchincloss

From: A constituent in Mansfield, MA

September 19, 2025

I am writing as a concerned constituent from Massachusetts to urge you to take immediate action to censure Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA-6) for his deeply divisive and inappropriate comments following the tragic assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. In the immediate aftermath of this horrific act of political violence—which claimed the life of a 31-year-old father of two and prominent voice for young conservatives—Representative Moulton appeared on CNN and used the tragedy as an opportunity to launch partisan attacks rather than unite in condemnation. He stated, "We need to be honest as a nation about where this violence is coming from," explicitly blaming "right-wing extremists" for the vast majority of political violence and demanding that President Trump rescind January 6 pardons as a show of good faith. These remarks, made less than 24 hours after Kirk's death, have been widely criticized as insensitive and inflammatory, exacerbating national divisions at a moment when bipartisan unity was desperately needed. Moulton's comments not only dishonor the memory of Charlie Kirk but also risk further inciting the very violence he claims to decry. As reported, they prompted an "extraordinary number of violent and graphic threats" against him, his family, and his staff—highlighting the dangerous rhetoric he employed. While I condemn all threats of violence, this outcome underscores the irresponsibility of his words in a time of profound national grief. Censure is a fitting and necessary response to hold our representatives accountable for conduct that undermines the dignity of the House and erodes public trust in our democracy. I implore you to introduce or support a resolution to formally censure Representative Moulton, sending a clear message that exploiting tragedy for political gain has no place in Congress. Massachusetts deserves leaders who prioritize healing over division. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to your response and action.
