An Open Letter

To: Rep. Burchett, Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Maryville, TN

April 8

What my elected officials did this week. - [ ] Abrogated their authority when they allowed the president to declare a bogus emergency and institute massive tariffs that have tanked the healthiest US economy in decades and triggered a global trade war that threatens the economic security of the entire world. Congress could end this crisis by declaring an end to this “emergency” and ending the tariffs. While this is within their authority, they don’t possess the courage or the moral compass to do this. - [ ] Allowed the Secretary of Health and Human Services to fire 10k essential workers during a measles outbreak that has resulted in the deaths of two unvaccinated children. - [ ] Stood quietly by while 31,000 constituent families are threatened with additional food insecurity as a result of unnecessary and immoral cuts to the USDA. - [ ] Continue ld to take a paycheck while doing absolutely nothing at all to earn it. - [ ] Helped an authoritarian and a handful of kleptocrats set the constitution on fire and then refused to uphold their oath to protect it. I would ask if you feel remorse for any of these things, but feelings of guilt or shame imply empathy and compassion, human emotions you don’t appear to possess. I am a constituent. I am a voter. I am a tax payer. The world is watching. East Tennessee is watching. I hope to see you voted out of office at the very first opportunity.
