Oppose Todd Blanche and Here's How to Peel Off Republican Votes
To: Sen. Hirono, Sen. Schatz
From: A constituent in Ewa Beach, HI
June 23
I am a concerned citizen and your constituent, writing to urge you to vote against the nomination of Todd Blanche as United States Attorney General and, more importantly, to ask that you and your Democratic colleagues use every tool available to help persuadable Republicans find the courage to do the same. I know you will vote no. What I'm asking is bigger: please fight strategically. The real opportunity here is not a Democratic protest vote. It's a bipartisan rejection. The confirmation math is tighter than it looks. Senators Collins, Tillis, Cornyn, Murkowski, Cassidy, and Kennedy have all raised serious, substantive concerns. These are not fringe objections. They are concerns about the rule of law, fiscal accountability, and the integrity of the Justice Department that cross party lines. Here's what I ask you to amplify: - The anti-weaponization fund is the clearest pressure point. Blanche verbally said it's dead but won't put it in writing. Sen. Tillis himself said he wants the "1776 fund dead with a stake in it" before he votes yes. Help him hold that line. Call for written, enforceable guarantees, not verbal assurances from a man who helped create it. - Blanche's role as Trump's personal attorney is disqualifying on its face. An Attorney General's duty is to the Constitution and the American people, not to a single client. Sen. Cornyn himself said, "You're not the president's lawyer." Echo that standard loudly and publicly. Make Republicans own that principle. - The Epstein file failures and Ghislaine Maxwell's transfer to a minimum-security facility are not partisan talking points. They are betrayals of real victims. Bipartisan outrage over the Epstein files played a role in Pam Bondi's firing. These facts deserve a prominent place in every public statement and hearing question. - The IRS audit shield protecting Trump and his family from tax scrutiny, while everyday Americans face enforcement, is something Senators Murkowski and others have flagged. This is a values issue that resonates across party lines. Todd Blanche does not represent the interests of the American people. He represents one man. His track record, including mass firings of career prosecutors and FBI agents, attacks on sitting judges, the anti-weaponization slush fund, and the Epstein debacle, is not the record of someone loyal to the Constitution. The hearing is July 15. There is still time. Please use it to build pressure, ask hard public questions, and give wavering Republicans the political cover they need to vote their conscience. We the people are counting on you, not just to vote no, but to lead.
