The Electoral College is an outdated system that no longer serves the principles of democratic representation. Its design gives disproportionate influence to less populous states, allowing a candidate to win the presidency while losing the popular vote. This is a fundamental violation of the core tenet that all votes should carry equal weight. The Electoral College also increases the likelihood of contested elections, faithless electors overriding the will of voters, and challenges to electoral integrity. Its anti-democratic nature undermines faith in our elections and governance. With widening economic and geographic disparities, the Electoral College threatens to entrench the ability of select regions to dictate national policy against the preferences of the majority. A direct national popular vote is the only way to ensure every American's voice is heard equally and the president truly represents the nation as a whole. Amending the Constitution to abolish the Electoral College would uphold democratic principles, restore faith in our electoral system, and prevent crises arising from its distortionary effects. The will of the people should determine our nation's leader through a straightforward national popular vote.
