Support Impeachment Over Reckless Hormuz Blockade

To: Rep. Van Epps, Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Franklin, TN

April 12

The President's decision to blockade the Strait of Hormuz puts American lives at risk and will cost taxpayers over a billion dollars per day. After 21 hours of negotiations in Pakistan failed to produce an agreement with Iran, Trump chose military escalation instead of continued diplomacy. This is exactly the wrong response. A naval blockade is an act of war. It will provoke Iran, endanger our service members, and spike oil prices that American families will pay at the pump. The dispute is over toll collection, not an imminent threat to national security. Walking away from talks after less than a day of negotiations shows this administration has no serious interest in a peaceful resolution. Congress has the constitutional authority to check a president who recklessly commits our military to dangerous operations without exhausting diplomatic options. I want you to support articles of impeachment against President Trump for this unauthorized military action. The two-week ceasefire proved diplomacy can work. Throwing that away for a blockade that costs a billion dollars daily while risking American lives is grounds for removal from office.
