Defend habeas corpus - reject suspension of civil liberties

To: Sen. Collins, Sen. King, Rep. Pingree

From: A constituent in Damariscotta, ME

May 10

The principle of habeas corpus cannot be suspended, as it is a foundational right that protects against unlawful detention. The White House's consideration to suspend this essential protection warrants strong opposition, as it would undermine due process, enable governmental overreach, and jeopardize civil liberties for all people in America. We must defend habeas corpus and the rule of law against this rogue proposal that endangers the integrity of our justice system.
