An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Demand Immediate Swearing-in of Rep-Elect Adelita Grijalva
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to urge you, Representative Smucker, to take immediate action in pressuring Speaker Mike Johnson to swear in Adelita Grijalva, the duly elected representative from Arizona. Ms. Grijalva won a special election on September 23rd to fill the seat of her late father, Raúl Grijalva, yet Speaker Johnson has refused to administer her oath of office.
Speaker Johnson's claim that he can only swear in new legislators during regular House sessions is demonstrably false. On April 2nd, while the House was in recess, he swore in two Republican members from Florida. This clear double standard raises serious concerns about the Speaker's motives and the integrity of our democratic processes.
The delay in Ms. Grijalva's swearing-in has left her district without representation in the House of Representatives. This is unacceptable. Every day that passes is another day that the constituents of this Arizona district are denied their rightful voice in Congress.
There are also troubling implications regarding the timing of this delay. Ms. Grijalva has publicly stated her intention to join the discharge petition for legislation to release the Epstein files. The Speaker's refusal to seat her appears to be a tactic to prevent this vote from moving forward, raising questions about potential efforts to obstruct justice and transparency.
I urge you to stand up for democratic principles and fair representation. Please use your influence to pressure Speaker Johnson to swear in Adelita Grijalva immediately. The integrity of our electoral system and the right of every district to have equal representation in Congress are at stake.
Your swift action on this matter is crucial. Please inform me of the steps you will take to address this urgent issue and ensure that all duly elected representatives are promptly seated in the House, regardless of party affiliation or the political implications of their positions.
