An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Oppose the Lee Amendment to S. 140 — Keep the Roadless Rule Intact

17 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

Oppose Senator Mike Lee's amendment to S. 140, the Wildfire Prevention Act, which would legislatively rescind the Roadless Area Conservation Rule. This amendment has already cleared the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, so the threat is real and moving fast. The Roadless Rule has protected nearly 59 million acres of national forest land from road construction and large-scale logging since 2001. Stripping it away would expose 45 million acres of public forest to development, increase wildfire risk, destroy wildlife habitat, and degrade the watersheds that millions of people depend on for clean drinking water. Worse, a legislative rescission — unlike an administrative change — would permanently block future administrations from restoring these protections. This isn't a policy tweak. It's a one-way door. Vote no on this amendment.
