An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Introduce a Standalone Bill Prohibiting ICE From Arresting U.S. Citizens

80 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

Introduce a standalone bill that explicitly prohibits ICE from arresting, detaining, or deporting U.S. citizens. This is not a hypothetical concern — citizens have been wrongfully detained by ICE, sometimes for days or weeks, with no legal recourse fast enough to protect them. That is a constitutional crisis, and Congress needs to act on it directly. A standalone bill is the only way to give this issue the floor debate and public attention it demands. Burying protections in larger immigration packages means they get traded away or never voted on. U.S. citizens have a right to due process and freedom from unlawful detention — full stop. I expect you to champion this legislation and push for a vote.
