Urgent: Oppose Border Patrol Deployment in Charlotte

I am writing to express deep concern regarding the planned deployment of Border Patrol agents to Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of expanded federal immigration enforcement. This proposal has come to light following similar operations in other cities, raising serious questions about its necessity and potential impact on our community. Local officials—including members of the Charlotte City Council and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff—have emphasized that neither their offices nor the local police department have been consulted or involved in planning these federal operations. Charlotte has recently experienced a decrease in violent crime, and leaders have prioritized community-led safety initiatives rather than federal intervention. Deploying Border Patrol agents risks instilling fear among immigrant communities, undermining trust between residents and law enforcement, and damaging Charlotte’s reputation as an inclusive city. We don't want a federal police force. Increased federal presence may lead to unnecessary confrontations, as seen in other cities, and fails to address the underlying causes of crime and community safety. I urge you to join local officials in opposing the militarization of our neighborhoods by federal agencies and to advocate for community-based solutions, transparency, and respect for civil rights.
