Demand Accountability for ICE Detentions of U.S. Citizens

I am deeply concerned about the recent ProPublica investigation revealing that over 170 U.S. citizens were wrongfully detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in just nine months. This alarming trend of detaining American citizens, including children and cancer patients, is a grave violation of constitutional rights and must be addressed immediately. The investigation uncovered disturbing details: citizens being physically mistreated, dragged, tackled, and even shot; nearly 20 children detained; and about two dozen Americans held for over a day without access to legal counsel or family. These actions are not only illegal but morally reprehensible. What's equally troubling is the lack of accountability. The government does not track how often immigration agents detain citizens, making it impossible to gauge the full extent of this issue. This lack of oversight enables the continuation of these unconstitutional practices. The increase in detentions appears to be a result of large-scale immigration sweeps across the country. While border security is important, it should never come at the cost of violating the rights of American citizens. The acknowledgment by a Border Patrol chief that appearance is considered in stops is a clear indication of racial profiling, despite the Department of Homeland Security's denials. I urge you to take immediate action: 1. Demand a full congressional investigation into ICE's practices and the wrongful detention of U.S. citizens. 2. Push for legislation that requires ICE to track and report all instances of citizen detentions. 3. Advocate for stricter oversight and accountability measures for ICE agents who violate citizens' rights. 4. Support the creation of a clear, accessible process for wrongfully detained citizens to seek justice and compensation. The constitutional rights of all Americans must be protected. We cannot allow fear-driven policies to erode the very foundations of our democracy. Your action on this matter is crucial to ensure that no more American citizens suffer this gross injustice at the hands of their own government.
