Stop the Defunding of Our Public Schools: Oppose ECCA
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
The proposed Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" is a blatant attack on public education that prioritizes the wealthy over the majority of Americans. Diverting $10 billion annually from public schools to private institutions through tax credits is deeply unethical and will exacerbate educational inequities. Public schools serve 90% of our nation's children, including those with disabilities and from low-income communities. Defunding these vital institutions will lead to larger class sizes, program cuts, and potential closures - depriving millions of students access to quality education. Moreover, the ECCA lacks accountability measures, allowing private schools to discriminate against students and disregard curriculum standards without reporting educational outcomes. This perpetuates systemic injustices and leaves marginalized communities further behind. Public education is a cornerstone of our democracy, providing equal opportunities for all children to learn, grow, and contribute to society. Undermining this fundamental right is both morally bankrupt and a disservice to our nation's future. I urge you to reject the ECCA provision and any efforts to defund public schools in favor of benefiting the privileged few. Every child deserves access to high-quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic status or background. Protecting and strengthening our public education system should be a top priority for leaders who claim to represent the interests of all Americans.
