An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Require Senate approval for military action against Iran

38 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

This is an urgent call to support Senator Tim Kaine's bill requiring congressional authorization before any US military strikes against Iran. The American public has no desire for another endless war in the Middle East, which would needlessly risk American lives and divert resources away from pressing domestic priorities. While tensions are escalating between Israel and Iran, unilateral US intervention without proper legislative oversight would be an unconstitutional overreach of executive power. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over matters of war and peace to prevent the nation from being drawn into a devastating regional conflict that does not serve our national interests. Defending our democratic system of checks and balances is paramount, especially regarding the monumental decision to deploy US troops into harm's way. This bill upholds Congress's vital war powers role and I urge its swift passage to rein in potential abuse of presidential war powers.
