Investigate and Block Trump DOJ Election Interference in California

Investigate and block the Trump DOJ's unprecedented interference in California's ongoing election. Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter sent a threat letter to California Secretary of State Shirley Weber demanding that Los Angeles County refuse to send ballots, segregate returned mail-in ballots, and withhold counts for anyone on a DOJ-supplied list of alleged noncitizen voters. Mail-in ballots have already been going out to every California voter since October 5. This is not a routine legal inquiry.
The executive branch has no constitutional role in the conduct of federal elections. That authority belongs to the states. The DOJ's list was delivered on a password-protected thumb drive with no clear explanation of how it was compiled. Past Trump administration attempts to identify noncitizen voters have been wildly inaccurate. Demanding that counties act on a flawed, unverified list during an active election is not law enforcement. It is sabotage.
This is exactly the kind of federal overreach that erodes public trust in elections. Push back hard, demand accountability for McCotter's actions, and make clear that states will not be bullied into disenfranchising voters on the basis of a secretive, unverified list from a politically motivated Justice Department.
