An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Dept of Ed is One of the Most Worthwhile Investments in the Future

The Department of Education plays a crucial role in protecting civil rights and providing funding for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Eliminating the department would disproportionately harm students in poverty and students with disabilities who rely on federal programs like Title I funding. Many Republican-led states actually depend heavily on this funding as a significant portion of their per-pupil education spending. Closing the department is unlikely to gain traction in Congress due to the negative impacts it would have, especially on rural and low-income communities. Instead of abandoning the federal role in education, we should focus on strengthening civil rights enforcement and ensuring equitable access to quality education for all students, regardless of their background or circumstances.
