Congress needs to launch an immediate investigation into the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran. This deal — which the document itself calls an agreement to end "the current war" — directly contradicts the White House's claim that congressional approval was never needed because no war existed. That's not a technicality. That's a constitutional deception, and it demands accountability.
The terms are staggering. The U.S. will terminate all sanctions, thaw frozen Iranian assets, and commit at least $300 billion for Iran's reconstruction — with no verification mechanism on Iran's nuclear commitments. The Strait of Hormuz, which was open before this war started, is now subject to Iranian and Omani administration and fees after 60 days. We spent 13 American lives, left 400 service members injured, and burned through $132 billion to end up paying Iran to reopen a strait we didn't close. Iran's government declared total victory. Senator Bill Cassidy called it "the worst foreign policy blunder in decades." He's right.
Congress cannot let this stand without scrutiny. Hold hearings. Subpoena the full MOU and all related communications. Examine whether the executive branch misled Congress to avoid a war authorization vote. The American people — and the families of those 13 service members — deserve answers.
