Demand Accountability for the False Prosecution of David Hearn

The Trump administration charged an innocent man with a felony to cover up a botched government contractor job, and someone needs to answer for that. David Hearn, a former Olympian, was indicted for allegedly vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool — damage that the Interior Department's own documents show was caused by contractor Atlantic Industrial Coatings through rushed, defective work. The government's grand jury witness even testified the property was already damaged before Hearn allegedly touched it. What makes this worse is that the Interior Department sat on that evidence. U.S. Attorney Pirro's office had to reach out "dozens and dozens of times" before DOI slowly released documents that were clearly in its possession all along. A National Park Service engineer's email from June 11 identified contractor overspray as the cause. That information should have stopped this prosecution before it started. I want you to demand a full accounting of why DOI withheld this evidence, who made the decision to pursue charges anyway, and what oversight mechanisms failed. Hearn's lawyers are right — the government owes him an apology. But an apology isn't enough. This was an abuse of prosecutorial power to protect a political narrative, and the people responsible should face real consequences.
