Demand Justice for Alex Pretti and Accountability for Border Patrol

I am writing to demand justice for Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA who was killed by Border Patrol agents during a protest in Minneapolis. According to reports, Pretti attended the protest to offer medical aid to a female protester being pepper sprayed. Six to seven Border Patrol agents allegedly threw him to the ground, bludgeoned him, and shot him 11 times. This is an unconscionable act of violence against a healthcare worker attempting to provide humanitarian assistance.
The Trump administration has labeled Pretti a domestic terrorist rather than acknowledging the excessive force used by federal agents. This defamation compounds the tragedy and prevents accountability. Before Pretti's death, Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Governor Walz attempting to leverage the removal of ICE and Border Patrol in exchange for voting data and supervision of midterm elections. Governor Walz rightfully refused this demand.
This incident has united Senate Democrats to vote against Department of Homeland Security funding, specifically ICE funding in the appropriations package scheduled for a vote this week. I urge you to join this effort and vote against funding for agencies that operate without accountability and use lethal force against civilians providing medical care.
I am calling for a full independent investigation into Alex Pretti's death, criminal prosecution of the Border Patrol agents involved, and systemic reforms to prevent federal agents from using military-style tactics against protesters and medical personnel. The agents who killed Pretti must be held accountable through the criminal justice system, not shielded by their agency.
Federal law enforcement agencies must operate under strict oversight with clear rules of engagement that prohibit the use of lethal force except in genuine self-defense situations. The killing of a nurse providing medical aid represents a fundamental breakdown in accountability. I ask that you take immediate action to demand justice for Alex Pretti and support measures that ensure federal agents who commit acts of violence face prosecution.
