I am writing to express my alarm and concern about the President's decision to withhold money already appropriated by Congress. This is outrageous and blatantly against the law.
I care about the Constitution. I care about the rule of law. I follow the law and expect that the leader of my country will do the same, but time and time again, he demonstrates his belief that he is, in fact, above the law. This cannot continue.
This money is my money. I have paid that money to the government in full faith that my elected officials would spend it wisely. Congress has appropriated it. It is spoken for. Not releasing this money is called impounding, which is against the law whether you agree with that or not. The Impoundment Act is not unconstitutional, and you know it. Allowing the President to break this law makes you complicit in breaking the law. He is not above the law, and neither are you.
As an American citizen, I ask you to stand up, speak up, and fight to save our democracy. I believe in the Constitution and expect you to demonstrate your commitment to it.
Speak up. Fight for what is legal and right.
