An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Support Temporary Protected Status for Haiti

40 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

As your constituent, I urge you to support recently introduced legislation to designate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This bill is a practical, humane response to extraordinary conditions that have left Haitians facing instability, insecurity, and the inability to safely and reliably rebuild their lives. TPS exists for a reason: when conditions in a country make return unsafe, temporary protection offers stability for individuals and families while reducing pressure that would otherwise force people into danger. Haitians who have built lives in the United States—working, caring for families, attending school, and contributing to their communities—deserve a fair and orderly path forward that recognizes reality on the ground. Supporting this legislation is also about strengthening our communities. TPS beneficiaries often become a stabilizing force in local economies. They fill jobs, pay taxes, and participate in community life. Extending or establishing protections can reduce chaos and displacement, help employers plan responsibly, and allow families to focus on work, education, and long-term goals rather than fear of sudden removal. Just as important, this effort reflects basic respect for the rule of law and for the responsibility of the federal government to respond to humanitarian and public-safety concerns. The legislation addresses attacks on protections by ensuring that Haiti can be designated for TPS under the appropriate legal framework. That means Congress can act to protect vulnerable people quickly and clearly when circumstances demand it. I respectfully ask you to co-sponsor the bill and vote in favor of it when it reaches the floor. Please also encourage your colleagues to move it forward without delay.
