An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Urge Action to Defend Democratic Institutions and International Alliances

I am writing to express my deep concern about the erosion of America's democratic institutions and international standing. Recent events at the Munich Security Conference have made clear the severity of this crisis. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated at the conference that "a divide has opened up between Europe and the United States" and that "the United States' claim to leadership has been challenged, and possibly lost." This represents a fundamental break in the transatlantic alliance that has maintained global stability for over 75 years. When our closest allies openly question American leadership, our national security is directly threatened. The concerns raised by Hillary Clinton at Munich deserve serious attention. She outlined specific betrayals of foundational agreements including the NATO charter, the Atlantic charter, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These are not abstract documents but the framework that has prevented major power conflicts since World War II. Secretary of State Marco Rubio himself acknowledged that "the old world is gone," confirming that we are witnessing a historic rupture in international relations. This damage affects your constituents directly. Our economy depends on stable international partnerships. Our security relies on NATO allies who are now questioning their relationship with the United States. The weakening of democratic norms at home emboldens authoritarian regimes abroad, creating a more dangerous world for American families. I urge you to take concrete action to defend our democratic institutions and repair our international alliances. This means supporting legislation that strengthens checks and balances, protecting the independence of our justice system, and reaffirming America's commitment to our treaty obligations. The consequences of inaction will be measured in diminished American influence, weakened national security, and a less stable world. Our allies are watching. Your constituents are watching. History will judge how Congress responds to this moment.
