An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose DHS Appropriations That Fund ICE and Support Standalone Funding Bill

11 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing to urge you to oppose any Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill or Continuing Resolution that maintains funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The House is expected to vote on this package on Monday, February 2nd. Congress now has a new deadline of Friday, February 13th to pass a new DHS funding bill. I ask that you use this opportunity to hold ICE accountable for its pattern of violence and constitutional violations. Since its establishment in 2003, ICE has been repeatedly accused of terrorizing immigrant communities through unconstitutional border checkpoints, family separations, denial of due process rights, and subjecting detained immigrants to physical, sexual, and mental abuse. The recent killing of Renee Good in Minnesota marked the 9th ICE shooting since September 2025 alone. This escalating violence demonstrates that ICE operates without meaningful oversight or accountability. The "One Big Beautiful" bill already provided ICE with a $75 billion slush fund without guardrails or conditional oversight, enabling the agency to continue violent attacks on communities with impunity. This lawless agency is not making our communities safer. It is endangering public safety through unchecked aggression and constitutional violations. I am asking you to take two specific actions. First, block any DHS appropriations bill that maintains ICE funding. The agency must be defunded and dissolved. Second, support a standalone DHS funding bill so that funding for other critical government agencies is not held hostage during these negotiations. Other agencies and their essential services should not be collateral damage in the fight to hold ICE accountable. The February 13th deadline provides a clear opportunity to demand accountability and protect constitutional rights. I urge you to stand with your constituents who value both public safety and civil liberties by opposing ICE funding in any form.
