The Trump administration's withholding of FEMA funds from at least 19 states since early February is unacceptable and in violation of court orders. These politically motivated actions leave Americans at risk by preventing states from preparing for and responding to disasters. FEMA funds previously allocated by Congress must be immediately released to all states without further delay. Additionally, the administration's cancellation of the BRIC program, which provides vital grants for disaster prevention and mitigation projects at the local level, is jeopardizing communities' abilities to protect themselves from future catastrophes. This decision must be reversed and the BRIC program fully reinstated to fulfill its crucial purpose of enhancing resilience nationwide. Continuing to withhold funding as political retribution is unconscionable and puts lives in danger. I urge swift action to unfreeze all FEMA funding streams and reinstate BRIC to uphold our commitment to public safety.
