As your constituent, I urge you to support and pass the Guaranteeing Rate Insulation from Data Centers (GRID) Act to protect families from higher electricity bills caused by the rapid growth of data centers. Data centers are already straining electrical grids nationwide. In Virginia, utility analyses have projected significant rate increases as data centers consume massive amounts of power. Texas has seen similar concerns, with grid operators warning that concentrated data center development could destabilize local power reliability. Arizona and Georgia face comparable challenges, with utilities reporting that data center demand is outpacing infrastructure investments, forcing costs onto everyday households. Even in states like Iowa and Kentucky, where data centers have expanded rapidly, residents have experienced or face the prospect of increased electricity rates to fund grid upgrades necessary to serve these facilities. Families across the country should not be forced to subsidize the power demands of large data centers through higher utility bills. This burden is particularly unfair when corporations profit from the infrastructure that ratepayers must pay for.
