Oppose the SAVE America Act and Protect Voting Access

I am writing to urge you to oppose the SAVE America Act (H.R. 22/S.128), which is scheduled for a House vote during the week of February 9th. This legislation would create unnecessary barriers that would prevent millions of eligible Americans from exercising their constitutional right to vote. The new version of this bill requires voters to present proof of citizenship both when registering to vote and when casting a ballot. This would disproportionately harm specific groups of Americans. More than 21.3 million Americans lack immediate access to documentary proof of citizenship, and over 140 million do not have a passport. Approximately 69 million women who have taken their spouse's last name do not have a birth certificate matching their legal name, effectively blocking them from registration. The impact extends to elderly Americans, who are among the least likely to have passports, and military members serving abroad who would be unable to meet in-person registration requirements. Citizens of color are three times more likely than white citizens to lack required documents such as birth certificates or passports. Disabled people, who already face significant voting difficulties, would encounter even greater obstacles. This legislation seeks to solve a problem that does not exist. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would justify these extreme measures. The SAVE Act passed the House in April 2025 with a 220-208 vote, but it faces significant Senate opposition for good reason. I ask that you oppose the SAVE America Act and protect the voting rights of all eligible Americans. Our democracy depends on accessible elections, not on creating barriers that disenfranchise millions of citizens who have every right to participate in our electoral process.
