Oppose Concessions in Government Shutdown Negotiations
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to express my deep concern over the impending government shutdown and to urge you to stand firm against making concessions to those responsible for this crisis. The recent actions by the Trump administration and certain federal departments are not only inappropriate but also deeply troubling for our democratic process.
Multiple federal departments have sent out identical emails blaming Democrats for the shutdown, suggesting a coordinated effort by the White House or GSA to politicize government agencies. This is a clear violation of the principle of political neutrality in public service. Even more alarming is the Department of Housing and Urban Development's website displaying a pop-up message criticizing the 'radical left', further demonstrating this administration's willingness to use government resources for partisan attacks.
The situation has escalated with Defense Secretary Hegseth encouraging generals and admirals who disagree with Trump administration policy to resign. This undermines the crucial civil-military relationship and threatens the stability of our armed forces. Additionally, President Trump's announcement to make American cities the 'training ground' for the U.S. military raises serious concerns about the use of military power domestically.
These actions collectively paint a picture of an administration willing to abuse its power, politicize federal agencies, and potentially militarize our cities. It is crucial that we do not reward such behavior with concessions. Instead, I urge you to hold firm and demand accountability for these actions.
The responsibility for this shutdown lies squarely with those who have chosen to prioritize partisan politics over the functioning of our government. By refusing to make concessions, we send a clear message that such tactics are unacceptable and will not be rewarded. This stance is not about partisan gain, but about preserving the integrity of our democratic institutions and the proper functioning of our government.
I implore you to stand strong in the face of this pressure. Let those who have brought us to this point bear the full weight of their decisions. Our democracy depends on elected officials like you to uphold its principles, even in the face of difficult circumstances. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
