An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Wash. only)
Protect Washington Voters' Privacy from Federal Overreach

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent request from the U.S. Department of Justice for Washington state's complete voter database. This unprecedented demand for extensive personal voter information, including full names, addresses, birthdates, and partial Social Security numbers, is alarming and potentially threatens the privacy rights of Washington citizens.
The DOJ's letter to Secretary of State Steve Hobbs on September 8, demanding this sensitive data within a mere 14 days, appears to be an extension of unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to protect our state's voter information from this federal overreach.
The requested data goes far beyond what is necessary for any legitimate inquiry into election integrity. Releasing such comprehensive personal information could expose Washington voters to identity theft, voter intimidation, and other forms of abuse. Moreover, it may discourage voter participation in future elections, undermining the very foundation of our democratic process.
I implore you to stand firm against this request and work with Secretary Hobbs to safeguard our voter data. Please consider the following actions:
1. Publicly oppose the DOJ's request and demand a clear, legal justification for such an extensive data collection effort.
2. Introduce or support legislation that strengthens protections for voter privacy in Washington state.
3. Engage with other state representatives to form a united front against federal attempts to access personal voter information without proper cause.
The integrity of our electoral system and the privacy of Washington voters are at stake. We must act swiftly to prevent any misuse of personal data that could compromise the trust our citizens place in the voting process. I look forward to hearing about the steps you will take to address this critical issue and protect the rights of Washington voters.
