An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Reject harmful cuts and protect food access

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The budget reconciliation bill H.R. 1 proposes unprecedented cuts of $290 billion to SNAP (food stamp) funding and expands harsh work requirements that could cause up to 5 million families to lose vital nutrition assistance. These draconian measures will severely increase food insecurity and hunger, especially for the two-thirds of SNAP households with children. Cuts of this magnitude to our nation's biggest anti-hunger program are unacceptable and will cause immense suffering. Overwhelming evidence shows that SNAP provides crucial support lifting millions out of poverty and improving health outcomes, while the proposed work requirements have been proven ineffective at increasing employment. I urge you to reject these misguided and harmful SNAP cuts in H.R. 1 that prioritize tax cuts for the wealthy over ensuring struggling families can access basic nutrition. Protecting SNAP's funding and role as a core safety net program must be a top priority.
