Urgent: Remove RFK Jr. as Health Secretary to Protect Public Health

I am writing to express my grave concern over the current leadership of the Department of Health and Human Services under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The recent letter signed by over 1,000 current and former federal health workers calling for his resignation is a stark indicator of the crisis we face. This unprecedented action by our nation's health experts should not be ignored. Secretary Kennedy's tenure has been marked by decisions that directly threaten public health. The ousting of CDC director Susan Monarez, which led to the resignation of four senior leaders in protest, has left our primary public health agency in disarray. The subsequent appointment of Jim O'Neill, a Silicon Valley investor with no public health experience and a history of advocating for unproven COVID treatments, as acting CDC director is deeply troubling. These actions come at a time when we can least afford instability in our health institutions. The recent attack on the CDC's Atlanta headquarters, which tragically claimed the life of a police officer, underscores the volatile environment surrounding public health efforts. Nine former CDC directors have already warned about increasing threats to public health from the current administration. I urge you to take immediate action to protect the health of all Americans. We need experienced, science-based leadership at HHS and the CDC. The claims that these changes are "restoring trust" ring hollow when faced with the overwhelming opposition from health professionals. Trust in our public health institutions is indeed crucial, but it must be built on a foundation of expertise and evidence-based practice, not political maneuvering. The consequences of inaction are severe. Every day that passes with this leadership in place puts American lives at risk. I implore you to initiate proceedings to remove Secretary Kennedy from his position and reinstate qualified health experts to their roles. Our nation's health cannot afford further delay or politicization of these critical institutions.
