Trump’s Attack on “Wokeness” is an Attack on Democracy—Stop This Now

In President Trump’s recent speech, in which he vowed to “eliminate wokeness” from American society. This is not just an empty political slogan—it is an open threat to silence dissent, dismantle civil rights, and impose an authoritarian vision where only his approved beliefs are allowed.
Let’s be clear: “Wokeness” is not the problem—fascism is.
• When Trump talks about eliminating “wokeness,” he’s really talking about crushing movements for racial justice, gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, workers’ rights, and environmental protections.
• He is framing basic human rights as dangerous, painting activism as a threat, and laying the groundwork for the suppression of speech, education, and opposition.
• This is straight out of the authoritarian playbook: demonize an enemy, justify crackdowns, and silence all who resist.
History has shown us where this road leads. Fascist leaders do not start by banning free speech outright—they start by branding it as dangerous, unpatriotic, or subversive. That’s exactly what Trump is doing. If Congress does not stand firmly against this rhetoric now, we will soon see legislation and executive orders aimed at censoring educators, criminalizing activism, and turning the government into an enforcement arm of Trump’s ideology.
I demand that you:
1. Publicly denounce Trump’s authoritarian rhetoric for what it is—an assault on democracy.
2. Pass legislation protecting free speech, academic freedom, and the right to protest before this administration finds new ways to suppress them.
3. Refuse to fund any government action that seeks to target political beliefs, social justice movements, or educational institutions based on partisan ideology.
The foundation of democracy is the right to think, speak, and organize freely. If Congress does not push back against Trump’s war on dissent, then you are complicit in allowing a slide into full authoritarian rule.
This is not a drill. You must act now.
