Sign the Discharge Petition for HR 1589 American Dream and Promise Act

I am writing to urge you to support HR 1589, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2025, and to sign the discharge petition (H.Res.1414) to bring this critical legislation to a floor vote. This bill addresses a fundamental problem: millions of long-term residents—including DACA-eligible individuals, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and those under Deferred Enforced Departure (DED)—live in legal limbo. HR 1589 would replace this uncertainty with a real pathway to permanent status and, for some, citizenship. This stability matters enormously. When immigration status depends on temporary programs that can expire or change, families face constant anxiety about job loss, arrest, and deportation. These are not hypothetical fears— our communities are currently being disrupted and families torn apart in ways this bill can remedy. The people affected by this bill are our neighbors. They are law-abiding workers integrated into our local economies, employed in essential industries from agriculture to healthcare to construction. They pay taxes and support their communities. Yet their precarious status creates unnecessary economic vulnerability. Expanding permanent status protections would prevent sudden workforce shocks, maintain tax-paying participation, and strengthen economic stability in our districts. Labor organizations recognize this too. They rightly frame HR 1589 as a labor policy issue: securing permanent status protects workers from exploitation and precarity, strengthens worker rights, and prevents the status-based discrimination that undermines fair labor standards for everyone. I understand HR 1589 has remained stuck in committee for over a year. The discharge petition for H.Res.1414 is just a few signatures short of forcing a floor vote. This is our moment to move forward.
