The Trump administration's decision to share confidential tax and Medicaid data with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a blatant violation of privacy rights and a threat to the safety and wellbeing of immigrant communities. The unauthorized disclosure of highly sensitive personal information from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to ICE will have devastating consequences. Undocumented immigrants, who contribute billions in tax revenue annually, will be deterred from filing tax returns out of fear of deportation. Access to essential healthcare will also be jeopardized as millions avoid seeking Medicaid services to protect their data from being weaponized against them. This unethical data-sharing flagrantly undermines the integrity of government institutions and erodes public trust. It is an abuse of power that accelerates the administration's discriminatory anti-immigrant agenda at the expense of civil liberties. Urgent action is needed to terminate these reckless data-sharing agreements, safeguard personal information, and defend the rights of all people residing in the United States regardless of immigration status.
